Friday low for Daybreak ratings

Friday’s edition of Daybreak hit a ratings low according to a tabloid report.

Friday’s edition of Daybreak hit a ratings low according to a tabloid report. The GMTV replacement, launched by ITV several weeks ago to much hype, has struggled to pull in the viewers and fight of criticisms. Fans of GMTV have not taken to the replacement offered to them by ITV and the broadcaster has invested millions in Daybreak hoping it would be a success. The show is fronted by Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles who were lured away from BBC One’s evening magazine series The One Show but the presence of the duo has failed to light up the ratings. According to the News of the World the Friday edition of Daybreak saw ratings drop to 700,000 viewers while BBC One’s Breakfast held steady at 1.4 million viewers.

“GMTV averaged 820,000, and only hit 600,000 in the summer holidays, which is always quiet. So Daybreak is actually 100,000 down. It’s bad news for ITV.” – An “insider” speaking to News of the World

GMTV finished its run on ITV with just under 1 million viewers several weeks ago and Daybreak launched with narrowly more viewers for its first edition. However, its second edition dropped to 900,000 viewers and by the end of its first week it had dropped to 800,000 viewers. The fact that Daybreak has now fallen down to 700,000 viewers is not good news for the newly launched series – how long before ITV bosses step in and order a revamp to boost ratings?
