Monday Ratings: DCI Banks beats Spooks
Early ratings data for Monday reveals that ITV’s new two-part drama DCI Banks: Aftermath, starring Stephen Tompkinson, narrowly beat BBC One’s spy-drama Spooks. Elsewhere Daybreak’s ratings didn’t recover from Friday’s fall while Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders all started the new week with strong figures.
The start of the new week didn’t bring any joy for Daybreak on ITV1 in the morning. It’s ratings for last Friday sunk to 700,000 viewers and that’s where they stayed for Monday morning. If Daybreak wants to stick around the only way for it is up – now down as it’s currently doing. By contrast since Daybreak launched several weeks ago BBC One’s Breakfast has consistently pulled in 1.4 million viewers – holding steady across the weeks. At 7pm The One Show started the new week with a strong 4.2 million viewers as Alex Jones and Jason Manford where joined by former Neighbours actor Jason Donovan. The Classroom Experiment on BBC Two had 1.2 million viewers across the hour while Emmerdale on ITV1 at 7pm had 7 million viewers. Channel Four at 6.30pm had 1.2 million for Hollyoaks followed by 700,000 viewers for its news programme at 7pm. At 7.30pm on BBC One Saints and Scroungers attracted 3.5 million viewers while the first edition of Coronation Street had 9.3 million viewers.
At 8pm EastEnders on BBC One had a strong 9 million viewers with University Challenge on BBC Two also enjoying strong figures – 3 million viewers. Countrywise on ITV1 pulled in 4 million viewers while Channel Four’s Dispatches: What’s The Point of the Unions? had 800,000 viewers. At 8.30 current affairs programme Panorama on BBC One had just 2.2 million viewers while BBC Two had a rare victory over flagship BBC One with Masterchef: The Professions. The second edition of Coronation Street of the evening was seen by 9.2 million viewers.
At 9pm new two-part ITV drama DCI Banks: Aftermath, starring Stephen Tompkinson, narrowly had the edge over Spooks on BBC One. The two-part ITV drama kicked off with 5.5 million viewers compared with 5.2 million viewers for Spooks on BBC One. Horizon: Back from the Dead on BBC Two at 9pm had 1.8 million viewers while Channel Four’s Titanic: The Mission pulled in 1.4 million viewers. Channel Five’s best ratings of the night came with The Gadget Show at 8pm with 1.2 million viewers and ratings stayed at that level at 9pm for Rory and Paddy’s Even Greater British Adventure. Aussie soaps Neighbours had 1.3 million viewers at 5.30pm with Home & Away pulling in 1 million at 6pm. The Inbetweeners continued to pull in big figures for E4 with the latest episode rating at 2.3 million viewers.
