EastEnders actress Nina Wadia, who plays Zainab Masood in the BBC One soap, has revealed she was shocked by homophobic comments she’s heard from viewers.

 

EastEnders actress Nina Wadia, who plays Zainab Masood in the BBC One soap, has revealed she was shocked by homophobic comments she’s heard from viewers. The actress revealed to Metro she had encountered some builders who were homophobic and made comments about the storyline between Syed (Marc Elliott) and Christian (John Patridge).

 

“I walked past some builders in Southall who told me to the give the characters Syed and Christian a good hiding and teach them a lesson. I was shocked they said that. That they thought being homophobic was a good thing.They laughed and walked off, which made me feel horrible” – Nina Wadia in Metro

 

Wadia’s character of Zeinab has struggled to accept her son’s sexuality and relationship with Christian. The storyline has proved to be controversial for EastEnders with viewers complaining about a vicious homophobic attack on Christian and also complaining about homophobic remarks made by Wadia’s character.
