The football match between Manchester United and Valencia was hosted by Adrian Chiles – who was absent from Daybreak yesterday – on ITV1. The Champions League match averaged 4.9 million viewers with a peak of 5.8 million viewers.

The football was therefore narrowly ahead of BBC One drama Waterloo Road at 8pm which had 4.4 million viewers. Masterchef: The Professionals dished up 2.7 million viewers for BBC Two at 7pm while Channel Four’s Food: What Goes in Your Basket pulled in 1.6 million viewers. Over on Channel Five Cowboy Builders delivered 1.7 million viewers.

At 9pm on BBC One Crimewatch attracted 4 million viewers while BBC Two documentary Secret Iraq mustered 1.2 million viewers. Grand Designs on Channel Four continued to pull in big audiences with 3.5 million viewers. American crime drama NCIS on Channel Five at 9pm was seen by 1.3 million viewers.

New reality series Seven Days on Channel Four at 10pm plunged to 680,000 viewers.
