GMTV, Daybreak go head to head for award

The NTA voting has begun, with the best Topical Magazine Programme award setting the cats amongst the pigeons.

New ITV1 breakfast show, Daybreak, will be asking for votes alongside the recently axed GMTV, which it replaced. Other programmes in the offering are BBC One’s Breakfast and The One Show, ITV1’s Loose Women, Alan Titchmarsh Show, This Morning and Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff.

This will be the first test to see if viewers have taken to new One Show hosts Alex Jones and Jason Manford. Their predecessors Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles now present the new Daybreak programme on ITV1.

If GMTV win it will be a kick in the teeth to ITV bosses who spent millions of pounds on the change. Ratings have not improved to the levels that were expected, with Daybreak averaging around 800,000 viewers, compared to the 1.4 million who watch BBC One’s Breakfast.

The results will be announced on the 26th January 2011.
