Daybreak to undergo revamp in new year?

The Mirror newspaper is claiming that ITV 1’s Daybreak could undergo a revamp in the new year, with Lorraine Kelly taking up a new role. UPDATED: ITV respond to Mirror claims

The newspaper claims that bosses want Lorraine Kelly to become the main presenter of Daybreak, as viewers it’s claimed have not taken to Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles. Lorraine currently hosts her own show Monday to Thursday from 8.30am. A source told the newspaper “Lorraine was the only one of the main presenters scoring well on audience research. So she is likely to get an enhanced role, or even become one of the main presenters.”

An ITV spokesperson has told ATV Today: “ITV has made a long term investment in new breakfast programming and, after over five years of decline for GMTV, Daybreak is already closing the gap in year on year decline after just one month, with housewives and children, male and younger audiences. We look forward to building on this start and welcoming new audiences to Daybreak and Lorraine.”

ATV Today understands there are no plans at the moment to replace the main hosts. An insider has spoken to ATV Today “In month one Daybreak has established a stable audience. Ratings have not fallen in the last week as suggested today. They were in fact up last week. Daybreak marks a significant change in breakfast programming for the audience (the first for 17 years). We are committed to listening to our audience and developing the show.”

Daybreak will play host to a Robbie Williams special tomorrow, which will see the star performing and talking about 20 years in the music industry.

You can catch Daybreak from 6.00am, and Lorraine from 8.30am on ITV 1.
