Space 1999, Blu-Ray release by Network DVDAnother ATV sci-fi classic from the production team lead by Gerry Anderson of Thunderbirds fame.

When a second series of UFO was commissioned Gerry Anderson decided to switch the focus of the series to the moonbase which had proved popular with audiences. Ultimately a second series never materialised however Anderson used some of his ideas to develop a new sci-fi series, Space 1999. The show was set on Alpha Moonbase during the title year 1999.

Storyline

A nuclear waste dump on the moon unexpectedly detonates, blasting the moon out of orbit and taking the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha on a fantastic voyage of discovery to the stars, fraught with danger at every turn.

The science of it all was nonsense but it was a popular series with audiences and in America. A second series was commissioned and the show underwent a slight revamp to vamp up the action and the show’s sex appeal. Unfortunately erratic scheduling killed the series off.
