Monday’s Ratings Strong Coronation Street and One Show Rise

A strong Monday evening for the soaps last night saw Coronation Street break into double figures.

An average of 10.0m viewers tuned into the soap’s first instalment of the evening at 7.30pm. Later at 8.30pm 9.2m viewers returned for the soap’s second outing. Earlier on ITV1 at 7pm Emmerdale continued its recent run of high ratings appealing to an impressive 8m viewers.

Over on BBC1 EastEnders also benefitted from the cold weather and darker evenings as 9.6m viewers tuned in to find out the fate of Ryan and Janine at 8pm. Over on Channel Four teen soap Hollyoaks pulled in a strong 1.6m at 6.30pm but it remains to be seen how many of those viewers will still be watching the soap come Friday. Five’s Aussie soap hour meanwhile remained above the 1m mark with Neighbours picking up 1.4m viewers at 5.30pm and Home and Away holding onto 1.1m viewers at 6.00pm.

Earlier in the evening on BBC1 The One Show appealed to 5m viewers, one of its highest figures since Christine and Adrian left the sofa. Following EastEnders at 8.30pm Panorama had 2.7m viewers while at 9pm on the channel the latest Spooks appealed to 4.9m viewers. Spooks was beaten by The Little House over on ITV1 which also started at 9pm and managed to draw an impressive 6m viewers.

Over on BBC2 the channel had a solid evening with popular fare including Strictly spin-off It Takes Two which appealed to 2.9m viewers at 6.30pm while at 8.30pm Masterchef: The Professionals increased to 3.1m viewers.

The latest Daybreak figures saw the ill-fated ITV1 breakfast show boosted to an encouraging 800k viewers, which may come as a relief to bosses at the station. Despite the rise the show was still almost a million viewers behind its BBC1 counterpart, Breakfast, which had 1.7m viewers.
