Gerard McCarthyActor Gerard McCarthy has confirmed he will make a brief return to the Channel Four soap Hollyoaks. The actor played cross-dresser Kris Fisher in Hollyoaks but left the series earlier this year to concentrate on other work – he has since landed a role in The Merry Wives of Windsor at the Globe Theatre. McCarthy has however confirmed, via Twitter, that despite his appearance in the stage play he has found time to make a brief return to Hollyoaks.

“Okay…. so the cat’s outta the bag! I am going back to Hollyoaks. It’s only a flying visit this time though! I filmed it on a day when I didn’t have a show @The_Globe…AND…I didn’t go back for a funeral!!!” – Gerard McCarthy on Twitter

Kris’s return to Hollyoaks will come in the aftermath of next week’s explosive fire episodes which will leave several characters lives in the balance – but as the actor said on Twitter his return won’t be for a funeral. The explosive episodes are part of new producer Paul Marquess plans to revitalise the soap after its ratings dropped below 1 million earlier this year. Since joining the soap in January the producer has axed quite a few characters – some of which are expected to exit via the fire – and introduced a whole range of new characters.

Gerard McCarthy played the cross-dressing Kris Fisher from 2006 until earlier this year. He was involved in several big storylines over the years though perhaps most memorable was the bisexual love triangle between Kris, Ravi Roy (Stephen Uppal) and Nancy Hayton (Jessica Fox).
