Arlene Phillips criticises Strictly judges

Arlene Phillips has criticised the Strictly Come Dancing judges for not being tough enough on the celebrity contestants. Phillips, a former judge on the BBC One dancing competition, has criticised the judges for not giving enough criticisms on the dancing techniques of this years celebrity dancers and for giving too many points out for entertaining dancers rather than good dancers. However, Phillips did praise Craig Revel Horwood singling him out from the other judges as the only one prepared to give serious criticisms.
“Every time Craig starts talking technically, Bruce interrupts and covers up anything that’s negative that Craig might say. I think at that point I might be jumping on the desk and shaking my arms. Are they being advised to score on technique? On the ability to master the dance? Or is there a new guide? For me it’s quite surreal and obviously playing by a different set of rules. It does seem that Craig is the only one that really cares about technique. Even Len Goodman, who is a master ballroom dancer, seems less concerned about technique and more concerned with performance.” – Arlene Phillips quoted in The Sun
On Sunday evening actor Jimi Mistry, best known for his film roles in East is East and The Guru, became the latest celebrity to exit Strictly Come Dancing. Despite receiving a high score from the judges Mistry and dancing partner Flavia Cacace ended in the bottom two along with Michelle Williams and Brendan Cole. You can read more about that here >>
