Days of our LivesNBC’s last remaining daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives has been renewed by the broadcaster for two more years. The news comes as the soap celebrates its 45th anniversary and its move to HD broadcast and will be welcomed by the soaps millions of fans. The new deal between Days of our Lives and NBC means the show will remain on air until at least September 2013. The announcement of the shows renewal was made by Ken Corday, the soap’s executive producer, at a party in Los Angeles to celebrate its anniversary.

Just several years ago NBC was talking about taking Days of our Lives off-the air in the very near future. In fact NBC President Jeff Zucker said at one point the soap was unlikely to remain on-air past 2009. With the demise of Sunset Beach and Passions the series is the last remaining soap on NBC while ABC still has three soaps (General Hospital, All My Children and One Life to Live) and CBS now has two (The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful).

Despite the axing looming Days of our Lives the soap has managed to turn itself around by cutting costs and increasing ratings – part of its deal with NBC to be renewed through until 2011. With the soap having met the targets by the broadcaster it is now secure until 2013.
