NUJ strike at the BBC is called off?

The second 48 hour strike by the National Union of Journalists at the BBC which was due to begin next Monday will be called off if the BBC drops disciplinary action against three employees. UPDATED 5.40pm

It is noted that the BBC agreed to meet with unions discuss sections of the pension scheme if they NUJ called off their planned 48 hour strike next Monday. It is now thought that the talks will begin to resolve the dispute. The previous strike on the 5th and 6th November caused widespread disruption to BBC news services.

The NUJ general secretary Nick Dear has said “We welcome the BBC’s change of heart and agreement to enter talks following industrial action by thousands of journalists and other BBC staff. We will enter those talks determined to seek a negotiated settlement. But we remain committed, and authorised, to take further industrial, political and legal action in the event that talks fail to deliver a fair pensions settlement.”
