ITV1’s Daybreak on the up as ratings rise

ITV 1’s breakfast programme Daybreak has seen its best ratings since the launch back in September.

Daybreak has faced some tough criticism from viewers in its first few months after it replaced GMTV, which had been axed after falling ratings The first episode of the new ITV breakfast show, which featured an interview with former PM Tony Blair attracted just over 1 million views back on 6th September.

Overnight ratings data for Monday show that Daybreak had an average of 900,000 viewers between 6.00am – 8.30am. Lorraine, hosted by former TV-am personality Lorraine Kelly, which follows the magazine show, has also been doing well attracting 1.2 million viewers. BBC One’s Breakfast, which runs from 6.00am to 9.15am averaged 1.6 million viewers.

ITV ditched GMTV after 18 years for a new-look morning output hosted by Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles who were lured with big money deals from the beeb where they, together, hosted prime time weeknight series The One Show.
