Singer Ricky Martin has revealed he was surprised at his parents reaction to his coming out as gay.

 

Singer Ricky Martin has revealed he was surprised at his parents reaction to his coming out as gay. The singer, most famous in the UK for his hit single Livin La Vida Loca, came out earlier this year as gay. The singer had been the subject of rumours surrounding his sexuality for years but had mostly avoided the subject until earlier this year when he announced on his official website he was gay. The singer has since spoken about how his coming out has made things easier for him and he has now spoken about his parents reaction to his sexuality.

“Mum asked me, ‘Baby, are you in love?’ And I said, ‘Yeah mum, I am in love.’ And she asked me, ‘Is it a man?’ and I thought, ‘Wow, this is gonna be easier than what I thought.’ And I said, ‘Yes mum, it’s a man.’ I was extremely surprised and then she said, ‘Come on, give me a hug. You’re my son and I love you, and I will always be here for you.’ So it was very beautiful. My father… he kinda told me. I wanted to tell him and he said, ‘You don’t have to say a word. Martin recently stated he wouldn’t marry his partner until gays and lesbians in his home country of Puerto Rica were able to marry legally.
