Doctor WhoThe BBC has confirmed that this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, will be screened on BBC One on Christmas Day. The special will guest-star Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins and as the title suggests will be a re-working of Charles Dicken’s famous novel. There was some speculation as to whether or not Doctor Who will get its now traditional and prestigious Christmas Day broadcast but today all was confirmed.

Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol will air at 6pm on BBC One and BBC One HD on Christmas Day. The One Ronnie, a variety show with Ronnie Corbett, will air beforehand will after will be Strictly Come Dancing featuring John Barrowman and EastEnders. BBC America, Space in Canada are airing the festive special on Christmas Day as well. ABC1 in Australia will be airing the festive special on Boxing Day.

Betting has already begun on which programme will be the top-rated of Christmas Day and Doctor Who is currently fourth in terms of likelihood. Ahead of Doctor Who is predictably EastEnders and Coronation Street and BBC comedy The Royle Family. Emmerdale and the revived Upstairs, Downstairs occupy the fifth and sixth slots respectively though in recent years Emmerdale’s ratings on Christmas Day itself have been very low.
