Psych actor James Roday has admitted he wanted Twin Peaks creator David Lynch in the tribute episode. A special episode of Psych will pay homage to David Lynch’s 1990s drama Twin Peaks which is perhaps the wackiest drama ever. Twin Peaks ran for two seasons and revolved around the murder of teenager Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) and was a huge hit however, when the murderer was revolved during the course of the second season ratings began to decline. A prequel movie, Fire Walk With Me, was made following the show’s cancellation.
Seven Twin Peaks actors have been reunited for the Psych tribute episode which will feature Sheryl Lee, Dana Ashbrook, Robin Lively, Lenny Von Dohlen, Catherine Coulson, Sherilyn Fenn and Ray Wise. But actor and writer James Roday has said there’s one other Twin Peaks person they would have loved to have onboard – David Lynch.
The only other role that we were talking about and tossing around the possibility of was a cameo for [Twin Peaks creator] David Lynch, and we, quite frankly, got cold feet. At one point, there was going to be a mayor character. He’s actually in the episode. He doesn’t speak, though; he’s a really old guy. But we were going to make it slightly bigger character who presents the Cinnamon Festival and has some dialogue — Mayor Douglas Fir — and we wanted to go after Lynch, but we thought, “What if he hates it? We’re going to be devastated, and no one else will want to do it if they found out David didn’t like it. So maybe we shouldn’t roll the dice.” So we played it safe. – James Roday speaking to Entertainment Weekly
Fans of Twin Peaks have long hoped for a revival but it was recently stated that despite the DVD releases the franchise is dead – and there are no plans for any revival. Amongst the other stars of Twin Peaks were Kyle MacLachlan, Joan Chen, Piper Laurie, Peggy Lipton, James Marshall, Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael Ontkean and David Duchovny.
Twin Peaks, both seasons, are available to buy on DVD individually or a special complete series boxset.
