Glee creator considering introducing new cast
Glee creator Ryan Murphy is considering adding a new cast to the hit Fox series to keep it fresh.
Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee, has revealed he is considering adding a new cast to his hit Fox musical comedy series. The creator of the series has revealed that he wants to keep the series fresh and that some of the original cast may depart Glee in the future – as they will be too old to play high-school students.
“Every year we’re going to populate a new group,. There’s nothing more depressing than a high schooler with a bald spot. I think you have to be true to the fact that here is a group of people who come and go in these teachers’ lives. They graduate and they’re gone. When some of them finish their run at high school it will be very teary episodes. For me it will be particularly tough but a new crop of actors will come in.” – Ryan Murphy in Herald Sun, Australia
Murphy added that new characters such as Sam (Chord Overstreet) were part of those changes but admitted the introduction of new characters can be tricky and the audience might not respond to them well. UK drama series Skins regularly replaces its entire cast with new characters in order to keep the show original and interesting. So far the cast of Skins has been replaced twice with fifth season of the E4 drama set to introduce the “third generation” when it returns next year.
