Coronation Street started its 50th anniversary week strongly with its first episode at 7.30 pulling in 11.2 million viewers according to early ratings information. However, it was Corrie’s second episode at 8.30, in which the crash happened in the final few minutes, that pulled in the big figures. An average audience of 13.1 million viewers saw the episode with a peak of 14.6 million. Sandwiched between the two episodes was a repeat of the very first ever episode of Coronation Street which had an impressive 6.5 million viewers though EastEnders was comfortably ahead of that with over 8 million viewers.
