ATV TodayAccording to reports Orlando Bloom is set to reprise his role of Legolas in the forthcoming The Hobbit films even though his character does not appear in the book. Deadline are reporting that actor Orlando Bloom will be in The Hobbit films and in more than just a cameo. The news – if true – comes just days after it was revealed that Cate Blanchett would reprise her role of Galadriel in the films even though her character doesn’t appear either.

However, as the adaptation of the Tolken book will be spread over two films its possible the producers are either padding out the film with new material featuring Lord of the Rings cast members or they are using pieces from other Tolken‘s books (such as Unfinished Tales) within the film. Confirmed cast members for the films so far include Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ken Scott, James Nesbit and Sylvester McCoy.

However, as yet there has been no official word on whether Hugo Weaving (elf Elrond), Ian McKellen (Galdalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) will be in the film – all three characters are within the book. It’s also odd given how passionate Ian McKellen seemed to be in the past few years about making The Hobbit into a film.
