Upstairs Downstairs drops to under 7 million viewers
Upstairs Downstairs lost viewers for its second outing last night on BBC One but was still comfortably ahead of ITV’s latest Miss Marple adaptation.
The second episode of Upstairs Downstairs lost a fair chunk of its audience last night according to overnight ratings. The period drama launched on BBC One on Sunday evening (Boxing Day) with 7.5 million viewers but last night’s second episode dropped to under 7 million viewers. The revival, starring Jean Marsh and Keeley Hawes, had 6.6 million viewers at 9pm on BBC One. There has been some criticism of the BBC’s decision to strip the drama over consecutive nights instead of airing it over three Sundays.
While the figure was down on Sunday evening’s premier it was still more than comfortably ahead of the latest Miss Marple adaptation on ITV1. The latest episode of the Agatha Christie sleuth pulled in 4.2 million viewers between 9pm and 11pm.
Upstairs Downstairs concludes tonight on BBC One at 9pm.
