The BBC has revealed that over 3,000 viewers have complained to the corporation over the current EastEnders storyline.
The New Year episodes saw Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) finding her baby had died and then swapping it with Kat Moon’s (Jessie Wallace) baby. Since the announcement of the storyline late last year, many people have complained about the storyline.
Executive producer for EastEnders, Bryan Kirkwood has defended the storyline saying, “We appreciate this is a challenging storyline and have taken care to ensure viewers were aware of the content in advance of transmission.” Helpline details have featured at the end of the programmes for those who are affected by the story.
It has also been revealed that some of the scripts had been changed, and some scenes had been cut before transmission, which had been considered to dark for the show. EastEnders hopes to keep the storyline running for “years”, although it is not known if this will now change due to the complaints.
