Waking the DeadThe BBC has ordered a spin-off series from cold case drama Waking the Dead. The new six-part drama will star Tara Fitzgerald as forensic pathologist Eve Lockhart from Waking the Dead. The BBC recently announced that the next series of Waking the Dead will be its last as the corporation axes some of its older dramas to make way for newer commissions.

Below is the BBC Press Release for The Body Farm – the new spin-off.

The Body Farm is BBC One’s new modern forensic crime series starring Tara Fitzgerald in the lead role. Tara plays Eve Lockhart, from Waking The Dead, in this original six-part series made by BBC Drama Production in association with Trevor Eve’s company Projector Productions.

Eve Lockhart leads us into her other world on The Body Farm, a private forensics facility that is pushing back the boundaries of scientific research and solving crimes – it’s unchartered territory. Here, no horror is taken for granted and murder is seen to be what it is – visceral and shocking. Eve is an exceptional forensic pathologist who leads a brilliant and ambitious team of scientists at a private facility where human remains are donated for scientific experiment. They are called upon by police forces all over the world to provide expert knowledge to help solve crimes.

“Eve Lockhart is a powerful and brilliant character from Waking The Dead – compassionate but cool and committed she searches for truth and justice in the darkest human experience. The Body Farm visually combines forensic and mortal elements in a cinematic, beautiful, surprising and arresting series.” – Kate Harwood, Controller, Drama Series and Serials,

In the opening 90-minute special, Eve is the only character who has had any previous experience of dealing with the aftermath of a horrific crime. In the modern world, where private forensics are being used more and more by the law, Eve and her team turn to police work to pay the bills.

Created by Declan Croghan, The Body Farm is new six-part series for BBC One (1×90′ and 5×60′). Produced by Simon Lewis, the executive producers are Sue Hogg from BBC Drama Production and Trevor Eve for Projector Productions. Filming starts in the Spring.
