ABC has ordered a pilot episode for a possible new series of detective drama Charlie’s Angels.
ABC has ordered a pilot episode for a possible new series of detective drama Charlie’s Angels – that’s according to The Hollywood Reporter. A revival of the classic 1970s series has been on the cards for some time now but it now looks set to actually happen with ABC giving a green- light for a new pilot. The pilot will be set in Miami and the producers will be Leonard Goldberg, Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen.
Charlie’s Angels originally ran on ABC between 1976 and 1981 and was produced by the legendary Aaron Spelling – just one of his numerous hits for television. It revolved around three female detectives, ‘angels’ hired by the reclusive millionaire Charlie Townsend (John Forsythe). The line-up of the drama changed over the course of five seasons but the most memorable angels were Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd and Farrah Fawcett-Majors with David Doyle as Bosley. A revival of Charlie’s Angels was planned in the late 1980s but never got off the ground.
Two Hollywood films were produced in the 2000s starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Lui. John Forsythe reprised his role of Charlie for the two films.
