DynastyA movie which would serve as a prequel to the 1980s glitzy drama Dynasty is reportedly in the works. According to one of the show’s creator, Richard Shapiro, a movie is in development which would focus on the early years of Blake Carrington’s (played by John Forsythe in the series) career.

“It was my daughter Florie’s notion to do a prequel, and that sounded very, very good to us. It’s how young Blake doesn’t realise he’s the son of Tom Carrington, but then he finds himself at the head of this company and surrounded by assassins and people who want to do him in. We’ve given thought to the movie before and we’ve been approached by a lot of companies, but no-one seemed to have a proper fix on it, Then suddenly we said, ‘Let’s do it ourselves’ – and we’re the ones to do it” – Richard Shapiro speaking to E! Dynasty ran on ABC between 1981 and 1989 and spawned a short-lived spin-off The Colbys. Dynasty was a huge international hit, dwarfing rivals Dallas at one time, and was famous for its cat-fights and silly storylines. It made household names of Joan Collins, who played superbitch Alexis Colby, Linda Evans (who played the ‘sweet’ Krystal) and John Forsythe who played the ruthless Blake.

A movie version of Dallas was planned several years ago and while a number of stars were attached to the project it ultimately amounted to little. Instead a television revival of Dallas is now underway with a pilot commissioned by TNT focusing on the next generation of the ‘Ewing’ family. Original stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy have already signed onboard the pilot while Larry Hagman is also in talks to join.
