Bryan Elsley, co-creator of teen drama Skins, has promised that the MTV version of the British series will be different. MTV has remade Skins for American audiences based on the original British series which starred Nicholas Holt and Mitch Hewer. However, while the MTV version will take its lead from the original Skins its co-creator Bryan Elsley has promised there will be differences and that the MTV Skins will find its own identity.
“There is something inherently British about the original Skins because it was written by young British writers. The American Skins is written by young American writers. There are probably a couple of transitional episodes in there, namely the ones written by me – that echo might be there. It’s the small specifics that give the thing its national character. When people settle into the show, they’ll find that teenagers across the world – they’re pretty much interested in the same thing.” – Bryan Elsley in New York Magazine
The MTV version of Skins has already been criticised by one parenting association in America and it hasn’t even premiered yet! The Parents Television Council described the teen drama as ‘the most dangerous show for teens’. Here in the UK the fifth season of the drama is due to return to E4 soon with a brand new ‘generation’.
