Red DwarfDigital channel Dave has reportedly ordered a new series of the cult sitcom Red Dwarf. According to The Sun bosses at the station were impressed by ratings for its 2009 special Red Dwarf: Back to Earth which had over 3 million viewers. Since the three-part special there has been much speculation amongst fans that a new series could be produced on the back of it. Now it appears as though that speculation may well be true.

“It got more viewers than BBC2 and Channel 4 combined on the night, which is really good. So they’ve just commissioned another series of Red Dwarf. We’re all quite like our characters – we’re caricatures of ourselves. We’ve got to recapture the highlights, like series five or six. If we can hit that mark, then brilliant. There’s no point doing it if it’s so-so.” – Craig Charles quoted in The Sun

Red Dwarf originally ran on BBC Two in the 1990s and was a cult hit for the channel. It starred Craig Charles, Danny John Jules and Chris Barrie. Craig Charles is now a regular on ITV’s Coronation Street where he plays cabbie Lloyd.
