The final episode of bonkers ITV drama Midsomer Murders to feature John Nettles had over 6 million viewers last night beating the return of Waterloo Road on BBC One. Nettles announced his departure from Midsomer Murders last year with actor Neil Dudgeon replacing him on the veteran murder drama. According to overnight ratings Nettles’ last episode as DCI Barnaby was seen by 6.6 million viewers. Meanwhile the return of Waterloo Road to BBC One – back for its second half of its sixth season – was seen by 4.6 million viewers. Last week Waterloo Road won Best Drama at the National Television Awards beating Sherlock and Doctor Who.
