The Bold and the Beautiful actress Susan Flannery, who plays the soaps Matriarch Stephanie Forrester, discusses the soaps upcoming 6000th episode and her retirement plans. Flannery’s character of Stephanie is currently involved in a cancer/brain tumour storyline leading some fans to speculate over the actresses future with the show. The Bold and the Beautiful fans fear the worst – thank Flannery is set to depart the soap especially as she recently discussed the possibility of retiring from acting. In a new interview with the TV Guide Magazine the actresses reveals that, at the moment, she plans to continue acting for a few more years.
I’m okay to work a bit longer, especially now that we have this great shooting schedule where we get 20 weeks off per year. I’m thinking I’ll work for another couple of years. – Susan Flannery speaking to TV Guide magazine.
Does Flannery’s words though mean that Stephanie Forrester is sticking around? The outcome of the plot is a closely guarded secret and the actress herself reveals she doesn’t know what will happen to Stephanie.
I don’t know if Brad will kill Stephanie off or if she’s going back under the knife — I never ask him about story. It’s my belief that actors should stay the hell out of that. But wherever this is going, I know I’m in good hands…I’m so very proud of our show and especially proud of Brad because he’s gone balls to the wall with this cancer story. When word first got out at CBS, a lot of people came over from The Young and the Restless — which shoots just across the hall from us — and they were saying, “Susan, are you really leaving the show? Is Brad nuts?” And I said, “Well, you never know what’s going to happen in this business!” [Laughs] I think that drove all the Y&R actresses crazy! But it’s true. You never know what lies ahead. – Susan Flannery speaking to TV Guide magazine.
Next week the Los Angeles based soap celebrates its 6000th episode and it was revealed last year that Desperate Housewives actress Kathryn Joosten would appear in the episode as herself – discussing her own battle with cancer.
I like that Brad wanted to honor the show’s anniversary by extending the cancer story in this way. Although I did think, “Oh, my God, here we go again!” I’m once again playing a character interacting with real people, just as I did when we shot down at the Union Rescue Mission and Stephanie talked to the homeless. It’s a tricky thing…..I was concerned about repeating that with the 6,000th because we have real cancer survivors interacting with fictional characters. Kathryn Joosten and Zheng Cao, who has a stunning voice and sings with the San Francisco Opera Company, are wonderful women and really got into it. I think their scenes are going to be very effective. But we also had cancer survivors [who are non-performers] interacting with us. – Susan Flannery speaking to TV Guide magazine.
Susan Flannery is one of the “core-four” characters on The Bold and the Beautiful; one of the four remaining original cast members. Ronn Moss, John McCook and Katherine Kelly Lang are the other three original cast members and all four remain central to the shows plots. Last year CBS renewed the soap for a further two years with recently cast members such as Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Ashley Jones, Kyle Lowder and Winsor Harmon have been dropped to ‘recurring status’ on the daytime soap despite their key role in storylines previously. However, in the cases of Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Ashley Jones the decision to drop them from contract was to allow them to peruse other roles temporarily.
In the UK fans of The Bold and the Beautiful are still campaigning a broadcaster to pick up the rights to the series after cable channel Diva TV stopped airing episodes last year.
