Sacha Parkinson Sacha Parkinson has described her current Coronation Street storyline as an ‘honour. The actress plays teenage lesbian Sian Powers who is currently in a relationship with Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent). The romance between the two has won legion of fans although a kiss, screened on New Year’s Eve, between the two was the subject of some complaints. Despite the few objections over the kiss Sian and Sophie were voted the couple Inside Soap readers would most like to see marry in 2011. Actresses Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson have discussed their roles in an interview with G3 magazine.

“When they first told us we were just excited and nervous to be honest. It was just an honour that they trusted us with it, and that it was going to be such a huge thing…. Everybody expected it not to last, and now that it has lasted this long, they’ve been pleasantly shocked.” – Sacha Parkinson in G3

“We were very aware that there were a lot of people involved in the storyline. So many people – all working hard, all giving 110% – who would really be relying on us to do it well.” – Brooke Vincent in G3

Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson said last year that the romance between Sophie and Sian helps to create positive role models and that the Manchester soap can promote gay rights through such storylines. It is rumoured later this the soap will feature it’s first gay wedding as Sean Tully (Anthony Cotton) weds the returning Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou).
