During an interview with SFX magazine Brannon Braga has revealed some more details about the Fox’s forthcoming dinosaur/time travel drama Terra Nova. The drama revolves around a group of human colonists who travel back in time (from the mid 22nd century) to prehistoric Earth when the dinosaurs ruled the earth. The colonists are hoping to start a new life on an Earth unspoiled by man and industry. Although the drama will therefore be set in the Cretaceous period the future (i.e the 22nd century) will still be part of Terra Nova’s plots according to Brannon Braga.
“Without giving too much away, there will be connections to the future that are very mysterious and ongoing but only as they relate to our characters. We won’t do standalone stories in the future, but the future will play a part in this series……The look and feel of the show will be unlike anything people have seen before in that it’s a fascinating conglomeration of futuristic technology in the distant past. The colonists bring with them medical technology, sonic weapons and non-lethal weapons to battle dinosaurs because they don’t want to kill anything unless they have to so as not to rape the landscape. The look of these technologies in a prehistoric setting is pretty cool, but having said that they don’t have all the luxuries.” Brannon Braga in SFX
Terra Nova will star Jason O’Mara, Stephen Lang, Shelley Conn, Christine Adams, Landon Liboiron and Allison Miller. Producing the drama alongside Brannon Braga will be Steven Spielberg whose previous dinosaur related credits include Jurassic Park. Terra Nova will premier on Fox in May with a “television event” before returning in the Autumn for its weekly series. Fans where given a glimpse of Terra Nova in a teaser trailer during the Super Bowl.
The new issue of SFX is out this Wednesday (9th March 2011).
