Hugh Bonneville has said he doesn’t know what will happen in the next series of Downton Abbey. The Edwardian drama is due to return for a new series later this year with production having already begun for the second season. The end of the first series saw the outbreak of World War One, aka The Great War, as Bonneville’s character of Lord Grantham announced Britain had declared war on Germany.
“I haven’t seen a script! I learnt from the newspapers that this series is set a couple of years after the last episode and the house becomes a convalescent home [for First World War casualties]. And I definitely wear uniform because I got fitted for it the other day – but other than that I know nothing. I could get killed!” – Hugh Bonneville speaking to the Radio Times
The cast of Downton Abbey, which includes; Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Brendan Coyle, Dan Stevens, Elisabeth McGovern and Michelle Dockery, are all expected to return for the second season. It was recently announced that Maria Doyle Kennedy, Amy Nuttall and Iain Glen would be amongst the new cast members for the second series.
