FireflyFans of Joss Whedon series Firefly have seemingly called off their campaign to revive the sci-fi. Hopes of a Firefly revival came earlier this year when it was announced the Science Channel had acquired the repeat rights for the series. Lead star Nathan Fillion announced he’d happily return to Firefly for new episodes if the series was ever revived. These comments, plus news of the repeats, sparked a lot of media interest and soon fans were setting up a campaign on Facebook called Help Nathan Buy Firefly.

The campaign was set up by fans to donate money to aid the revival of Firefly. However, it now seems as though the campaign as come to an end. Why? Because Maurissa Tancharoen, writer on Dollhouse and Whedon associate (and sister-in-law) has posted to fans. The writer said ‘no one in the Whedonverse is in support” of the campaign. The writer later clarified her comments to assure fans that their efforts were appreciated but the campaign was not official in any way. These comments have seemingly resulted in the organisers deciding to wrap up the campaign.

However, will that be the end of Firefly’s fans attempts at reviving the series? Unlikely given the recent surge of interest within the series.
