Doctor WhoThe Sun is reporting that the Cybermen will return to Doctor Who and they’ll be bringing back their creations the Cybermats. The Cybermen had a cameo appearance in The Pandorica Opens, the first part of the fifth season finale. Previous to that their last fully fledged appearance was in the 2008 Christmas Special The Next Doctor where the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) battled them alongside guest-star David Morrissey.

In the last few weeks reports have emerged from location filming of the Cybermen appearing in the next series. Fans who have been present for the recording of scenes have reportedly spotted the cyborgs but, as yet, there has been no official confirmation of their return. The Sun reports the Cybermen will appear in the same episode as James Corden’s appearance; reprising his role of Craig from last year’s episode The Lodger.

The Cyebermats are creations of the Cybermen and are usually used to infiltrate establishments and destroy equipment or spread a deadly virus. The Cybermats appeared in the Patrick Troughton stories Tomb of the Cybermen and The Wheel in Space. Their final appearance in the original series was in the Tom Baker story Revenge of the Cybermen.
