British actress Keira Knightley is to lend her voice to Tinker Bell in Syfy’s forthcoming Peter Pan sequel, Neverland. The Hollywood actress is probably best known for her role of Elizabeth Swann in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean; appearing in the first three films. The actresses other notable roles include Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess, Atonement and Love Actually. In something of a major casting coup for Syfy Knightley has landed the role of Tinker Bell in Neverland, the Syfy sequel to Peter Pan. Also in the cast of Neverland are Charles Dance, Bob Hoskins and Anna Friel.
Below is the press release.
Academy Award®-nominated actress Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean, Atonement) joins the cast of Syfy’s four-hour live action television movie event Neverland as the voice of Tinker Bell.
The project, a prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter Pan, written and directed by Nick Willing, will see Knightley bring to life the iconic role of Tinker Bell, a magical tree spirit whose strength and powers are put to the test when her colony within Neverland’s treetops is endangered. Joining current cast members Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, Raoul Trujillo and Charlie Rowe, Knightley will record her role this spring. Neverland will air on Syfy in December 2011.
Neverland is being produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films on behalf of MNG Films in association with Syfy and Sky Movies HD and distributed by RHI Entertainment. Sweeping in time from the turbulent seas of the pirates of the Caribbean to the back alleys of Dickensian London to a world of pure imagination, Neverland is the inspired origin story of one of the most cherished characters of all time … Peter Pan.
Peter (Rowe), along with his pals of young pickpockets, have been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) to snatch a magical orb which transports them to another world—Neverland. Filled with white jungles and imposing cities formed out of trees created by Dr. Fludd (Dance) and inhabited by a colony of tree spirits led by Tinker Bell (Knightley), this mysterious realm welcomes unknown friends and enemies snatched from time. These include power-mad Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and her band of 18th century pirates who search for the answer to eternal youth, a secret guarded by a Holy Man (Trujillo). As the fight to save this strange and beautiful world escalates, Peter and his crew consider that growing old somewhere in time could be less important than growing up—right here in their new home called Neverland.
