The BBC have commissioned a Christmas special and second series of their critically acclaimed comedy, REV.
Premiering to 2.2 million viewers REV went on to win the South Bank Award for Best Comedy 2010 and was nominated for Best Comedy and Best Comedy Performance for Tom Hollander at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards, Comedy Awards and Broadcasting Press Guild TV Awards.
Cheryl Taylor, Controller of Comedy Commissioning, said: “Rev. was one of the comedy highlights of last year and we’re thrilled to be returning to St Saviour’s to see more of the Rev Smallbone and his hilarious and moving pastoral, marital and spiritual challenges. With Fintan Ryan and Sam Bain joining the already outstanding creative team, we’re looking forward to a truly exceptional second series.”
Co-creator Tom Hollander returns as the Rev. Adam Smallbone, James Wood will once again take up the helm as lead writer; Fintan Ryan is joining to write an episode and multi-award winning Peep Show creator Sam Bain will join as script editor and also to co-write the Christmas special with co-creator Wood.
Sam Bain says: ‘’Rev. was my favourite new show of 2010, it was a great achievement to carve such a funny show out of such challenging material. I’m excited to be part of the team and contribute my experience of writing about religious extremists and sexually frustrated men.”
Filming for series two will start in East London this summer and will air late 2011 on BBC Two.
