Stars react to All My Children and One Life to Live axings
Stars from prime-time, soap veterans and current cast members have given their reactions to the news that ABC is axing All My Children and One Life to Live.
The broadcaster announced – in a big shock – earlier this week that it was dropping the axe on both soaps and replacing them with cheaper programming. While both have been the victim of cancellation rumours for sometime now it was widely expected it would be a case or either/or though ABC repeatedly denied it had any plans to cancel either soap.
Only a matter of weeks ago as cancellation rumours circulated about All My Children the broadcaster once again denied it’s future was in doubt. No one quite expected ABC to cull both struggling shows in one swoop – but it has. As expected there’s been a lot of reaction to the news and below is just a selection of comments.
It saddens me that All My Children is canceled. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and the incredible people at AMC…. To my loyal fans, thank you for the outpouring of spirit and support. Your kind words mean so very much to me.” – Susan Lucci, only remaining original cast member on All My Children
“A moment of silence for a disappearing genre. OLTL and AMC, we’ll miss your hard work and talent.” – Nathan Fillion, former cast member on One Life to Live, now lead star of Castle
“I am saddened and shocked by the news of AMC‘s cancellation. It’s the end of an era. I love you, AMC.” – Eden Riegel, former AMC cast member now on The Young and the Restless
“It’s a terribly super sad day. I am grateful for the opportunity One Life had given me over the years, it is a piece of my heart. Love you.” – Gina Tognoni
“To all the wonderful AMC and OLTL fans: thank you so very much for your support over the years. We will always be grateful.” – Bobbie Eakes
“Devastating. Not surprised, but it’s still so sad that a genre of TV is disappearing. I’m deeply heartbroken by this news!” – Kim Zimmer
