Peter Jackson confirms Ian Holm for The Hobbit
Peter Jackson has confirmed Ian Holm will reprise his role of Bilbo Baggins for The Hobbit.
Holm played the adventurous hobbit in The Lord of the Rings movies and now director Peter Jackson has confirmed the actor will once again play Bilbo in the prequel The Hobbit. British actor Martin Freeman has been cast in the film as a younger Bilbo Baggins so how will Holm also appear? Well it’s already been announced that Elijah Wood will appear in the film as Frodo even though he does not appear in the book – so its likely Holm’s appearance will tie in with that. Jackson confirmed Ian Holm’s role in a post on Facebook.
One comment that came up from the recent video blog was the Bilbo voice at the end—many of you assumed it was Sir Ian Holm. Whilst Ian will be returning as the older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, that recording was actually Martin Freeman’s voice, taken from a script read through we recorded when the cast first arrived. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure who it was when I first heard it, either. – Peter Jackson on Facebook
Ian Holm and Elijah Wood are not the only actors returning for The Hobbit with Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and Christopher Lee all signed up while its rumoured Hugo Weaving will also appear in the movie. Starring alongside Martin Freeman in the film will also be Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt, Aidan Turner, Rob Kazinsky, Ken Scott and Sylvester McCoy.
