Bold and the Beautiful wins award for cancer storyline

The Bold and the BeautifulCBS’s daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful has won an award for a cancer storyline.

The storyline featured the soaps domineering matriarch Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) discover she had stage 4 lung cancer. The storyline started to play out last year on The Bold and the Beautiful and continued across the year into 2011 and followed the character’s initial diagnosis to it and battle with cancer.  The soaps recent 6000th episode featured appearances from survivors of cancer – including actress Kathryn Joosten – who discussed their experiences.

The storyline has now been recognised in the inaugural Prism LUNGevity Award later this month. The new award has been created in partnership with the LUNGevity foundation with the hope of creating more accurate and realistic portrayals of lung cancer.
