ITV eyes Inspector Morse prequel
ITV is reportedly interested in ordering an Inspector Morse prequel which would focus on the detective’s university years.
The hugely popular ITV drama series Inspector Morse ran on ITV1 from 1987 to 2000 and produced 33 episodes during its 13 year run. John Thaw played the role of Inspector Morse in the adaptations of the novels by Colin Dexter. The author of the novels has reportedly been approached by ITV to develop a prequel of the drama. As yet no deal has been done as talks are still ongoing but ITV is said to be very interested in developing the prequel hoping to air a one-off episode next year to tie-in with the 25th anniversary of the first Morse episode.
Actor John Thaw sadly passed away in 2002 but ITV has extended the Inspector Morse brand through the spin-off Lewis which launched in 2006. Actor Kevin Whately reprised his role of Robert Lewis, from Inspector Morse, with Lawrence Fox as DS James Hathaway. So far five seasons of Lewis have aired on ITV1 with the most recent airing just weeks ago.
