Sunday Evening Ratings: Vera beats Atlantis

Brenda BlethynThe second episode of ITV’s new detective drama Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn, had the better of BBC One’s drama about the fall of Atlantis last night.

The glossy BBC One drama about the destruction of Atlantis starred Stephanie Leondias. It revolved around the fall of the Minoan civilisation which were based on the Mediterranean island of Crete which many scientists now believe was the basis for the legend of Atlantis. Last night’s drama was along similar lines to BBC One’s 2003 drama Pompeii: The Last Day, another famous city destroyed by a natural disaster in the classical world. According to overnight ratings Atlantis had 5 million viewers at 9pm with a peak audience of 5.6 million viewers.

ITV1’s one detective drama Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn, continued at 9pm with its second outing. According to overnight figures the crime drama had 5.3 million viewers which is more or less unchanged from last week’s opening instalment which aired opposite Exile on BBC One. Elsewhere on Sunday evening and rural affairs magazine programme Countryfile had 6 million viewers for BBC One at 7pm while the Antiques Roadshow at 8pm had 5.9 million viewers.
