Eliza Dushku to star in Torchwood spin-off
Torchwood writer Jane Espenson has hinted that former Dollhouse and Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Eliza Dushku is to star in an online spin-off from the sci-fi series.
Writing on Twitter, Espenson dropped several hints pointing to Eliza Dushku role in the new spin-off; Torchwood: Web of Lies. The fourth season of Torchwood, named Torchwood: Miracle Day, is currently in production in America for premier in July. It’s a co-production between the BBC and Starz and the web-series will accompany the fourth season.
“There is going to be Torchwood web content. So in addition to the television series there is Torchwood: Web of Lies. Enjoy all the Torchwood brands!…….We have faith in Torchwood: Web of Lies. It’s tru; there’s an echo of my past work in this spinoff.” – Jane Espenson’s tweets on Twitter
Not very subtle hints really when you consider Espenson previously wrote episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling and Dollhouse. Eliza Dushku’s played rogue slayer Faith in Buffy (and spin-off Angel) and more recently Echo in Dollhouse. If Espenson’s hints are correct Dushku won’t be the first Buffy actor to appear in Torchwood as James Marsters, who played Spike in the vampire drama, guest-starred in several episodes of sci-fi in its second season as Captain John.
