Brenda BlethynITV has ordered a second series of its new detective drama Vera starring Brenda Blethyn.

The drama is based on the Vera Stanhope novels written by Ann Cleeves and airs on Sunday evenings on ITV1. So far Vera had performed modestly well for ITV with over 5 million viewers for the three episodes shown so far. Another four episodes, each two hours long, will be produced for the second season.

Vera is partly funded by the Northern Film and Media which is backed by the north-east regional development agency One North East. They have also provided funding for BBC One’s detective drama Inspector George Gently which stars Martin Shaw and is set in the 1960s.
