Laura Kuenssberg to move to ITV News

The BBC’s political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg is defecting to ITV News where she will be Business Editor for the broadcaster’s news output.

Kuenssberg is seen as a rising star of BBC News, rising to prominence in the aftermath of the General Election of 2010. Kuenssberg was one of the main reporters covering the talks between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives (and also the brief talks between Labour & the Lid Dems) as a coalition agreement was sought.

 

Kuenssberg also recently fronted some of the BBC’s coverage of the local elections and AV referendum in May. Other notable events covered by Kuenssberg for the BBC include the student protests of late last year.

Laura Kuenssberg will join ITV News in September in the newly created role of Business Editor, which will see her contribute to the broadcasters regular bulletins as well as the current affairs programme Tonight. Kuenssberg joined the BBC in 2000 working on regional news until 2003 when she moved over to The Daily Politics. She has previously worked for Channel 4 and NBC.

Kuenssberg isn’t the first high profile BBC reporter to be poached by the corporation’s rivals. Natasha Kaplinsky moved to Channel Five in 2008 as part of the broadcasters revamp of its news output. Kaplinsky’s former Breakfast co-host Dermot Murnaghan moved to Sky News in 2007.
