Ultimate Ulster discovers viewers best loved UTV moments

In the final Ultimate Ulster of the series, the programme looks back at over five decades of UTV’s most memorable moments.

In the last show host Frank Mitchell, pictured left, will be counting down the viewers selection from the archives of ITV in Northern Ireland. The programme makers have trawled through the archives to find the most funny, poignant and memorable moments from 51 years of UTV broadcasting.

The top moment isn’t being revealed until Ultimate Ulster airs on Monday, however the moments within the programme, in alphabetical order, are Charles Witherspoon interviewing a man from Strabane, George Best’s funeral, the Good Friday Agreement, Ivan Little trying to say phenomenon, Jackie Fullerton and Giant Haystacks, continuity announcer Julian Simmons’ introductions to Coronation Street, Lynda Bryans announcing her pregnancy, Romper Room, School Around the Corner and The Gerry Kelly show.

Frank Mitchell said, “After travelling the length and breadth of Ulster for this series, the final programme comes to you from the UTV archives. Over the past 51 years, UTV has brought you some unforgettable moments and it has been great fun digging through the old tapes to make this programme. The only down side is it reminds me of how young I used to look!”

The final programme in the series of Ultimate Ulster, will air on Monday July 4th at 8pm on UTV. For viewers outside of Northern Ireland UTV can be viewed across the UK on SKY.
