David Tennant and Matt Smith up against each other for TV Choice Awards

David TennantMatt Smith and David Tennant have both been nominated for Best Actor in the 2011 TV Choice Awards.

The two actors will compete against Colin Morgan of Merlin and Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock. Smith and Cumberbatch previously went up against each other for Best Actor at the BAFTAS earlier this year but on that occasion neither actor won the award. Doctor Who has nominations in several other categories with Karen Gillian nominated for her role of Amy Pond in Doctor Who. The late Elisabeth Sladen is also nominated for The Sarah Jane Adventures; the actress passed away earlier this year following a battle with cancer.

Doctor Who is nominated in the Best Family Drama where it faces Merlin, Waterloo Road and er Casualty. Steven Moffat’s Sherlock is nominated for Best New Drama alongside Single Father, which starred Tennant, and Downton Abbey. Misfits and Being Human are both nominated for Best Drama Series.

Voting for the TV Choice Awards remains open until Friday 8th July and the winners will be announced in September. You can vote here >>
