New Tricks back with over 8 million viewers

New TricksBBC One drama New Tricks returned last night for its 8th season with over 8 million viewers.

The veteran detective drama had its biggest launch since 2009 with an impressive 8.2 million viewers tuning in t he season seven opening episode in 2010 had 7.9 million viewers. The drama starring Amanda Redman, James Bolan, Dennis Waterman and Alun Armstrong unsurprisingly won the 9pm time-slot for BBC One. New Tricks has consistently performed well for BBC One since its pilot in 2003 and is one of the highest rated dramas on the BBC. Elsewhere at 9pm ITV1 documentary Babies Behind Bars had 3 million viewers while Embarrassing Bodies on Channel Four had 2 million viewers. At 10pm new Channel Four comedy Sirens lost viewers for its second episode as 1 million returned.
