Russell T. Davies developing new drama for Showtime

Russell T. DaviesTorchwood creator Russell T Davies is developing a new drama series for Showtime.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the broadcaster has confirmed the writer is developing a new series for them – with BBC Worldwide Productions along onboard for the new Showtime's Queer as Folkproject. The new series is titled Cucumber – names change though – according to the paper. The new series will see Davies return to writing about the lives of gay men.

The writer penned the Channel Four drama Queer as Folk which broke ground and smashed taboos for its graphic portrayal of gay life. The series was successfully remade for American audiences by Showtime and ran for five years. His other credits include the short-lived ITV drama Bob & Rose about a gay man who fell in love with a woman. The series starred Lesley Sharp & Alan Davies but was not a hit. Davies has previously spoken about a drama he was developing about gay men and his desire to see it made.
