The final edition of News of the World has been put together as it prepares to go on sale tomorrow. The headline reads “Thank you and goodbye” which is superimposed on a montage of iconic front pages which the newspaper has published over 168 years. The final edition is made up of 120 pages, including a 48 page pullout.

The newspaper was shockingly axed on Thursday after allegations of phone hacking and corruption. Staff battled on to produce the final edition which some predict could become their most successful edition in years as many will want to buy the paper as a souvenir.

Expecting a surge in demand, they will roll out 5 million copies, double what usually goes out. Editor Colin Myler sent an e-mail to staff today in which he stated that it was a difficult day for all the staff. He went on to say “Who could have imagined this time last week that we would be putting out the last edition of this great newspaper after 168 years?”

The plug was pulled by News International boss Rupert Murdoch. The company continue to have a stake in Sky broadcasting, The Times newspaper and The Sun in the UK. It is believed by some inside the company that within the year a Sunday version of The Sun will begin production.
