Rupert Murdoch arrives in the UK

Rupert Murdoch has arrived in the UK today and is currently at his News International headquarters in Wapping.

Murdoch is currently at his News International headquarters in Wapping, East London. He was driven in earlier today reading the final edition of News of the World, in which he and other executives took the decision on Thursday to axe.

The boss is in town on what News Corporation say is a “scheduled visit”, which coincides with the phone hacking scandal of the past week which brought down the UK’s most read newspaper. More importantly to Murdoch, the scandal looks set to derail his plans for a takeover bid for BSkyB. News Corporation currently own 39.1% of BSkyB.

Labour leader Ed Miliband is hoping to force a Commons vote to delay the bid. Submissions are currently being looked at by Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt and a final decision is not expected until September. Miliband had previously stated that Hunt should refer the matter to the Competition Commission, something he has refused to do.
