The Sun claims that Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) will hatch a plot to kidnap Hope Stape – the daughter of Fiz (Jennie McAlpine).

Fiz is currently in prison awaiting to stand trial for the murders committed by her deranged husband John (Graeme Hawley). Fiz tearfully gave her daughter over to Hayley and Roy Cropper to look after instead of bringing the child up in prison. The Sun claims that Becky will become closer to Hope and begins to hatch a plan to kidnap the baby and bring her up as her own.

“Becky is baby-mad and is desperate for one. She grows close to Hope and dreams of bringing her up as her own.” – An “insider” in The Sun

However, when Fiz announces her intention to take Hope back as a place comes up in the prison’s mother and baby unit the desperate McDonald will reportedly take drastic action.

“Becky isn’t thinking straight and believes jail is no place for a baby.” – An “insider” in The Sun

It was revealed earlier this year that actress Katherine Kelly was leaving Coronation Street with Becky being written out later this year. The new plot comes as producer Phil Collinson admitted, in an interview with OK magazine, that the soap had become to obsessed with crime and would move away from crime related stories.

The plot will be seen as some as further evidence that the Manchester based soap has lost its way. Fans have blasted the soap for long, ‘tedious’ and unrealistic storylines such as the John Stape saga and the introduction of actress Michelle Collins to the soap as new Rovers Return manager Stella – revealed to be the long-lost mother of Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).

Tabloid newspapers have also run stories about the supposed decline in ratings and how ex-soap stars such as Johnny Briggs and Ken Morley have turned on the soap.
